LXP Best Practice

Students prepare for exchange programs in the ComGen LXP

The University Center for Development Cooperation (UCOS) prepares Belgian students for the challenges of international exchange programs. Through online courses developed on the ComGen Learning eXperience Platform, students not only learn to deal with cultural differences they may encounter during their stay, but also develop a critical awareness of their own role within international mobility structures.

UCOS views international mobility as an industry that often perpetuates colonial power structures and is largely focused on one-way traffic. By naming and analyzing the problematic aspects of this industry, they strive for change on both an individual and collective level.

UCOS therefore provides students and facilitators with the necessary tools to consciously and respectfully adapt to new cultural contexts. These formations focus on themes such as positionality, privilege, racism, poverty and (neo)colonialism. This helps participants understand neo-colonial dynamics within the mobility industry and frame the impact of their actions on local communities. Students can enroll in these programs through the UCOS Creator+ website.
